I am back from day 1 at the Australian Open and I don’t know where to begin because I am feeling very overwhelmed even though this is not the first time I have been. I am just going to start from the beginning and attempt to make it short. As soon as I arrived at Melbourne Park in the morning I went to Court 16 in the hope of catching a glimpse of Federer during his practice session. I was at Court 16 from around 11am to 1.30pm even though I had Rod Laver Arena tickets, so I missed Sharapova’s match but it was absolutely worth it.
Djokovic practiced before Federer, he arrived 40 minutes later than his scheduled time and only practiced for around 30 minutes because at 12pm
a beautiful head of brown curlsGoderer entered court 16. Everyone went insane as Federer walked on court. He practiced for a full hour with Gilles Simon. The two exchanged banter in French and the crowd of Federer fans (including me) cheered every time Roger smiled. At the end of Federer’s practiced he made his way to the fence to sign autographs. I held my Swiss flag out in the hope that Roger would sign it…. and he… did. I can’t put into words how I felt at this moment, the people around me probably thought I needed to be put into an asylum, but I don’t care because I have Roger Federer’s autograph. After all of that everything felt stupidly surreal. I made my way to Rod Laver Arena, watched Stosur beat Chang, watched Djokovic beat Mathieu and then wondered around in a haze before I had to leave for the day.
So that was day 1. Tomorrow I have Rod Laver Arena day session tickets which means I get to watch Federer play. (I went to the information desk earlier that day to ask if they had the RLA schedule for day 2 and they told me they only had some details and asked me if there was someone I want to know about in particular, I said ‘Federer, night or day?’ and when they responded ‘day’ I basically (embarrassingly) lost it.) Report back soon. [All photos take by me]

Federer: “My twin girls have helped my game. I’m playing some of the best tennis of my life. Today is a dream come true for me & my family”
